From the interconnection of all things to the universe, semiconductor giants and tech giants are not only looking at smart homes, autopilot, big data, cloud computing and other niche applications, but are also committed to challenging broader application scenarios. Create a less costly, safer, more humane experience of smart cities for humans.

Recently, Infineon Technology and Tencent Cloud held a cooperation signing ceremony to formally announce that the two sides will cooperate in the area of smart buildings and work together to build more environmentally friendly and safer buildings in the future through efficient and sustainable project development.

It is well known that Infineon is a world-renowned international semiconductor company, and Tencent is a Chinese technology company of IoT + AI. Why are two iconic companies focused on different areas of the world rushing together to forge partnerships in smart buildings? It also begins with the development of smart buildings.

Three Elements of Smart Buildings

In recent years, with China's urbanization and digitization, intelligentization is accelerating, the smart building market is favored by the industry. According to the report released by the Industrial Research Institute, the total size of China's building intelligent market will reach 1.06 trillion. The business mainly includes the direct application of intelligent technology for new buildings and the intelligent transformation of existing buildings. Among them, there are naturally chips, sensors, power devices and other core components.

Andreas Urschitz, president of Infineon Technology Power Management and Diversification Market, said that smart buildings have three major components:

The first is to collect information, including, but not limited to, installing various types of sensors in buildings to achieve collection, monitoring, etc.;
The second is to transmit data, and the huge amount of information collected must be converted into valid data and uploaded to the cloud/edge in real time, so that the sensor and the sensor and the data processing terminal maintain real-time connectivity;
The third is the operating platform, that is, the data processing system. Through artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other algorithms, the valid data collected are summarized, classified, analyzed, and scientific processing solutions or opinions are given.

At present, the development of the first and second fields is relatively mature, but the data processing system is still relatively missing. Together with the accelerated deployment and commercial use of 5G communications in 2019, its broadband will be wider, the number of connections will increase, and the transmission of data will be faster. The data processing system will be the last level to achieve the "interconnection of all things." In this industrial context, Infineon and Tencent cloud cross-border cooperation will come into being.

Cross-border Cooperation between Infineon and Tencent Cloud

Infineon, as the provider of innovative sensors and safety solutions, will provide strong support for the development of smart buildings in Tencent's Smart Building System Project and other cloud solutions, Tencent said. For its part, Tencent will use solutions including Infineon smart headlamps and integrate Infineon's leading sensors into Tencent's smart building system.

Specifically, Infineon will provide sensors that simulate four kinds of human senses -- sound sensors, like intelligent ears; Gas sensors, like smart noses; Pressure sensors, like the touch of intelligence; Finally, radar sensors and 3D sensors, just like human eyes.

"Yingfei Ling will integrate these sensors into smart hardware to collect real-time information, including the number of people in the room, the direction of people's movement, the temperature of the room, the concentration of carbon dioxide, and so on. Subsequently, this information will be uploaded to the cloud through Tencent Cloud's Welink operating system, resolved into valid data, and accurately analyzed through the AI algorithm, giving a plan or proposal for the next instruction operation. Finally, the operation instruction will be returned to the hardware through Welink to complete the implementation. "Andreas Urschitz said.

It is reported that Tencent Cloud will use smart tube light solutions from Infineon. It uses 24 GHz XENSIVTM radar technology to count the flow of people under the lamp, and at the same time, it can adjust the lighting intensity according to the flow of people, thereby improving the efficiency of energy conservation.

In the future, three technical challenges for smart buildings

Looking ahead to the development trend of smart buildings, Andreas Urschitz proposed three challenges.

1、The first is energy consumption. As the population and social structure change, people will become richer, but society will also face the problem of aging. This leads to the gradual migration of people from rural to urban areas, and cities with large cities will pose great challenges to the entire ecological resources.
2、Next is the question of security. It can be imagined that the smart buildings of the future are full of various data. But this data is private to every individual, and no one wants their data to be easily attacked during transmission.
3、And finally, human-computer interaction. Infineon hopes that the experience of human-computer interaction in the future will be more natural and smooth, just like the interaction between people.

In order to solve the above problems, the future cooperation between Infineon and Tencent Cloud will be carried out in the following aspects. In terms of energy consumption, Infineon's sensors, together with Tencent's cloud computing capabilities and algorithms, and Welink's operating system, help buildings operate at a lower cost and greener environment; In terms of data security, Infineon can provide end-to-end data security solutions, and Tencent Cloud can ensure the security of the network from different dimensions; In terms of human-computer interaction, the two sides also plan to promote human-computer interaction(HMI) in the field of smart buildings through other activities, such as smart lighting, smart speakers, or sensors with AI functions; At the same time, it will also invest a lot in the development of speech recognition and gesture control, making the interaction between people and machines more humane.

In general, the future market for smart buildings is still very large, and the cooperation between the two sides is full of unlimited possibilities. "Infineon is one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, and the technology and solutions that make life easier, safer and greener are exactly what Tencent's smart building system requires," said Wanchao, vice president of Tencent Cloud. We are pleased to work with Infineon to explore new possibilities for further development in the rapidly growing smart building market. "
